First let me start off with all the awfulness that unions in America have become. I have several friends who work in the midst of 'the unions' and I've heard all kinds of horror stories about their greedy, self-serving behavior. In one instance, a certain guy belonging to a certain union of a certain defense contractor was caught watching porn at work...twice! The guy was unable to be fired or even reprimanded because of his involvement with the union. This same friend has mentioned how he tries to stay away from the entrance of his workplace building around 2 o'clock because he doesn't want to get caught in the sea of union people literally running out of the building when their appointed workday is over. Another union worker spends the day inspecting vintage coins (with gloves and inspecting glasses in tow) rather than, you know, working. My dad, who is an electrician at Phizer, also complains about the unions, who tell him to slow down when he has the nerve to actually work hard because he'll 'make the union guys look bad.' In short, unions have become an excuse for Americans to be lazy on the job because it's removed the fear of being fired due to doing a shoddy job. Just check out Harvey Dent's article on New York's "rubber rooms" designed for teachers who are too reckless to teach and you'll see an example of an organization run amok in greed, apathy and self-service.
